Types of Children English Teaching

Children learning English is very common and also necessary in nowadays society. Therefore, more and more children English cram schools are established. Children can learn English not only in their schools but also in cram schools. In this situation, English teachers must change their teaching methods to make more competitive in order to have more students. Thus, children English teaching is already totally different from the way brfore. It became more variety, interesting, and popular. However, you can't use one set to teach any groups of students. What kind of teaching method is suitable ,it depends on your students' types. Children English teaching can be classified into three types according to the age range of the pupils :pre-school English teaching ( for ages 2-6) ,primary school English teaching (for ages 7-12), and junior high school English teaching (for ages 13-15).

The first type is pre-school English teaching. The children in this stage is still very young, but most of them are very interested in learning languages,no matter it is Chinese or English.Every time ,before you go to the class, you have to dress up,put on a strange or a super big hat, a mask ,special or colorful clothes. Let yourself look like an acter or even a monster to catch childrens' attention. When you go into the classroom to teach, don't forget to exaggerate your expression and body language, and vary your sound and tone to give children deep impression. This way can help children to remember what you taught. As to the textbooks, the children don't need any one. You just prepare some story books to tell and sometimes teach them nursery rhymes. That is already enough to them.

The second type is primary school English teaching. The students in this stage are getting like to read the words ,so they need textbooks. However, textbooks are not the most important part in the class. The most important part is how the teachers present the lesson.Every time, before you teach them, you must do the lesson plan. You should divide a class into three sections:warm- up(5 minutes), presentation(20-30minutes), conclusion(5-10minutes). In the first section :warm-up,let students do an activity , sing a song, or have a listening test to warm up the children's learning feeling and recall their memory. Then, present today's lesson. In this section, you have to prepare some games, let children" learning by playing". Sometimes, you have to divided students into two teams to compete each other. The last sectionis is conclusion. In this part, you have to review today's lesson and ask students:"What did you learn today?"After that ,don't forget give them some homeworks.

The third type of English teaching is teaching in the junior high school. Teaching the students of this stage, the textbooks and tests are much more important. They have an entrance examination when they graduated from school. Therefore, theching them has more pressure than teaching the other two types of students. There are a lot of quizzes for students every day.Teachers have to spend lots of time setting examination papers even on the off day.In addition, teachers must emphasize the key point of the lesson ,especially the grammar. We all agree that grammar is very boring, however, being their teacher, you have no choice but to explain it very carefully and interestingly.Besides, the students are really hard in studying every day, teachers sometimes have to tell jokes or funny stories in the class in order to release pupils' pressure.

Facing the students of different types must have different teaching methods.Their learning experience and the development of cognition ability are totally not the same.Your teaching methods must adapt to your students. Then, you will be an effective English teacher.

A Meaningful Life

How do you look at the life of yourself? Do you expect that your life is special, wonderful or even meaningful? I really admire the people who have a meaningful life. But,what is a meaningful life? In my opinion, a meaningful life is a manner of existence which deserve to be understood , mentioned,or learned. Have you ever thought wheather your life is meaningful or not untill now? Actually, there are many people who have meaningful life in this society. For example, the volunteers and the patients who got the rarely seen diseases.

First, I think the volunteers' life is meaningful. They offer their services without payment to help the people who need assistance. They spend much time or money to do a lot of things which benefit people or this society and never expect others' feedback. They set an good example to others, especially to children. So,their meaningful life really deserve to be mentioned.

Next, some of the patients who got the rarely seen diseases are also have a meaningful life. Maybe some people will think they are so miserable. They can't be cured by nowadays medical treatment and seems so holpless. However, some of them are still so positive, optimistic and brave to struggle for living. Moreover ,they even make a speach everywhere or write books to encourage the people who got troubles or frustration. This kind of life is also meaningful , isn't it?

The meaning of life is not on how long your life span is, but on what you do for people and this society. So,why not change your life style, spare a little time to do some meaningful things from now on?And then, you will not only create a meaningful life ,but also feel lifeful.

Contrast Adult's Storybooks and Children's Storybooks

Most adults and children like to read storybooks or listen to the stories. But, adults readers and children readers are quite different. Good adult's books are not necessarily suitable for children. On the contrary, children's readers may be not liked by adults. There are some differences between adult's and children's storybooks.

First of all, setting is different between these two kind of strories. Adult's stories always has clearly description on setting .It includes when , where, how ,and why the story happen, meanwhile it also reflects the story's culture background. In contrast ,children's stories usually happened long time ago, and sometimes leave out describing the place or time.

Second, they are also different on characters. There are often many characters in adult's stories. And the main character usually undergoes a series of misforture ,misunderstanding, or training, then change to be a more beautiful or stronger person. On the other hand, there are not so many characters in children's stories, but specially, the characters sometimes are animals, plants or even objects.

Finally, the most prominent difference is the plot. The plot in adults' stories are more complicated and has a lot of conflicts. The length of the stories are always longer than childeren's because there are multiple points of view to describle. In addition, the ending is sometimes very surprising or terrible. However, the plot of children's stories are easy, simple ,and more formulaic. Children can guess what happened next. Besides, there are more repeated sentences or daily conversation in the stories, children can even remember all of the story. Moveover the ending is usually beautiful and happy.

Now ,we know adults' and children's stories are quite different. So, when we choose a book in the bookstore or library,we can distinguish easily the book is written for children or adults, just by checking its setting, characters and plot.

Why I choose "Children Literature" to study

This semester I take "Children Literature" as an elective course to study besides," English writing ". This course is talking about how to tell a story for children.I am very interested in learning story telling. I decided to choose this course just because of three reasons.

First of all , my experience tells me that story telling is one of very effective methods in teaching children. I have taught children for almost twenty years in primary schools, cram schools and kindergartens. Every time when I told a story for children,it was very easy to catch children' attention. You didn't have to spend a lot of time controlling the classrome discipline. Moveover, children also felt learning is so fun.Teacher and children were both happy in the classroom.

Next, I want to improve the skill of my story telling. Although I have told stories in the classroom for several years, actually I haven't taken any training course about it. I thought it is necessary to get much more information about it .This year I quit my job, I have more free time to do what I want to do . So, I think it is a good chance to study "story telling" course. I want to know if it has good methods to improve story telling skill, including how to make varied sounds
,expression and action for different roles in the stories. Besides, I also want to know how to write the lesson plan for the story telling. I hope the stories I tell will be more attactive.

The third reason is for my son's learning. My son always ask me to tell stories for him. He is four years old. He is getting more and more interested in books reading and story telling. Every night before he goes to sleep,he always asks me to read the books and tell a story for him. If I can make the stories more fun and interesting, my son will like it more much.

Studying "children literature"can benefit not only my teaching ,but also my child' learning. In addition, I have a wish:I want to write children's books. If I have enough preparing in creating skill, writing children's books will be not impossible for me.
